heres one reason why popular internationally touring artists dont play shows in areas controlled by drug lords and terrorists. fuck that is horrible.
it was cup day. the horsies. oooh, yeah. i had no money riding on anything. no surprises there. last night we were chatting about what horses the flatmates were going to go for. one of the favoured one was called master o'reilly. they liked the name, since it sounded a little irish. im not sure if they ended up betting on him though, the last text i got today said their horse came second and i think that one was called purple moon.
i came home to watch the race. most people in the building left after lunch time, and i was asked by an RA from another lab why i was there today full stop. kind of annoying when she proceeded to tell me that all the students in her lab took the day off. anyways.. in general i dont care for stuff like horses racing because it doesnt seem that appealing and i dont finding throwing my money away a fun activity. but, i do digress on that a little bit because the race was prety exciting. on tv. i think it would be really boring being there all day and having to wait around (and drink, heavens no!!) for an hours between races while all the other stuff goes on. i guess i liken it to going to my first baseball game. all the close ups and great footage you see on the tv is nothing like what you see when you are actually there. perhaps if one could bring their plasma and set it up in the parking lot while picnic drinking (whats the aussie description of this? its tailgating at home) the atmosphere of the crowd and the venue would be there and all the nice coverage of the televsion cameras.
because i was home early i watched the news and there was a lot of footage of people in the car park and their very intriguing vans and party buses. some interesting costumes too, clearly not everyone is a fashionista. i was reading some other stuff on the age earlier that made me laugh, but it was fun to know that there are people who follow their traditions however strange they may be. the cup race was repeated a bazillion times later in the day. including very nice helicopter footage. i can see the grand stand at flemington from my window and was watching the helicopters to laps around the city most of the afternoon.
and just to mention the fashion, claire sent me
this link to some funny opinions on the people who gett pissed/ trolleyed/ wasted/ hammered/ what have you in their sunday best. hey, sportsgirl was advertising it to be "frocktober" for the last few weeks. a lot of what written there is true, imo.
one shitty thing about us now being 16 hours ahead of eastern standard time is that torrents go up two hours later. yes i need to complain about this because it effects my life greatly.
