| there have been a few good movies on the television tonight. i did not watch any of them in their entirety. i was supposed to see a movie at the theater with claire, but when we got there to buy tickets it was sold out. go figure. its an older movie too.
instead we came to my house and chilled for a while. then began to watch harry potter III from abotu 40 minutes from the end, which i had been watching a bit of at the gym earlier. on the second commercial break i made a comment about how we could be watching this without the stupid ads, since i own that dvd. we had been contemplating starting to watch thirteen as i have rented it from the erc library at school. we put it in ready to go and then lindsay stopped by so it was slightly delayed. lindsay didnt stay too long since she was basically passing time in the city waiting for other people, but it was good to see her since i wasnt able to meet up for lunch this week. (experiments dictate everything now..) after she left we then watched thirteen, a movie i really like but had not seen in years. i think i may own that one too, but if i do the disc is in canada. when we turned that off, austin powers III was on, as i flicked the channel to rage. much discussion about rage and the strange programming tonight ensued. everything from brit pop to punk to old school hip hop. the guest programmers, the raptures, have a wide variety of musical tastes. and now that claire is gone i have just watched the end of gone in 60 seconds. i definitely own that movie, again disc 100% in canada.
today i also watched quadrophenia for the firs time. good movie. watching it in 2007 makes it seem veru common place for some of the violent themes that are addressed, but back in the day, 28 years ago-ish, that must have been quite cutting edge. one of the scenes i liked the most was when jimmy does his balcony dive in the ballroom in brighton subsequently getting himself kicked out of the club. i dont like this part because of the dive itself rather because of the music and the environment they are in at the time. in all the other scenes when there is a party or the characters are out somewhere, there is a band playing somewhere in the room. there is no such band playing in the brighton ballroom, that i noticed. i may have to watch it again with a keener eye if i am wrong. did they have djs in 1964? obviously i liked the music during this part (and the soundtrack in general) but i thought it was cool that the idea there was a dj in the scene off camera somewhere gave me something to ponder. one of my favourite lines in 24 hors party people is "they're applauding the medium" regarding the manchester dj scene in the late 80s. 20 years before this, what was going on in england? djs? live bands?
omg, side note: tv at 1:30 on a staurday morning is LAME. some stupid reality show from LA starring some blonde asshole named skylar, the osbornes, or a bad movie i dont recognize. excuse me where is the tour de france??? i have been enjoying watching little bits of the tour this last week. its very strange to be watching on late night. hmm, then must have a rest day tonight. at home i used to watch it first thing in the morning and it was the athletes finishing the leg for the day. france at the moment seems so beautiful. from a helicopter covering the tour even more. the country is incredibly green. green grass and tress everywhere. not the case in australia the last time i was in helicopter. and the towns they pass through are so picturesque and vintagely 1800s. at the shots go by i have thought to myself that would be such i nice place to live. peaceful, quiet, etc. then i think: i doubt they have cable internet in middle of nowhere france. then quietly take by my thoughts and think about how much i like city living and having things on my door step. maybe its not green everywhere the eye turned to look, but on sunny days (like part of today) i have a view of the blue pacific water and little white sail boats in port philip bay.
last night i met up with some of the girls for drinks and dinner. we first met at the place where nadeen's boyfriend works for cocktails. he created a few things on request which was cute, then we waited for him to finish his shift to go get some food. for the rest of the night i was asking him how often he leaves with five girls from the bar, but i could never get a strait answer. we headed up to lygon, when as we looked for a good place i randomly heard my name being called by people we passed by. it was mark and enzo from lab/ the department. weird. they were both drunk and so was some other guy they were with. the other guy was high fiving me as i left. again weird. it strange to see work mates out, very intoxicated, when i am used to seeing them in a completely different environment. i cant remember where we ate, to not be descriptive it was some italian place. everyone had something different, i had the cannelloni. i get that quite a lot on lygon. after food it was clear we had not eaten and drunk enough and nadeen suggested (push upon us :P) getting chili hot chocolate. they were really good too. i hadnt had chili chocolate before so i was a bit surprised i liked it as much. its not hot or spicy but leaves a hot taste in youre mouth after you swallow the liquid. the place we went to was sort of closed and the guy in the shop opened up for us as long as we got take-away. and it meant he could charge up all an extra dollar to have the larger take-away size. i would go back there for hot chocolate. if it wasnt $6 i would go back there daily and pour swicth the red bull from coffee. hah, i am now picturing myself drinking a large hot chocolate followed by cans of red bull. what an over saturation of sugar that would be.
oh and the best part of today was that i didnt have to go to school. muhahaha. bill messed up the isolation on thursday so it meant that the experiment started off on a really bad foot then he fucked it up while plating out the cells meaning that any data would not be comparable to what we have going. it became garbage. depressing that now this experiment has to go another week longer, but i didnt have to go to lab today- in the short term this was a good thing! the lab "vacation" is over sadly, lea will be back on monday and probably will have everyone under the grill for something. |
